The next day in game, we continued our journey north. We were heading toward the vanguard encampment that Talimeh wanted to reach. When I asked her how soon we needed to get there, she responded: “The sooner the better.”

So we made haste. She already had a horse of her own, but opted to leave her armed guards behind now that she had me and the girls to go with her.

We made good time. Aside from a few run-ins with wolves and bandits, all of which yielded nice XP, the roads were clear. It rained heavily as we entered northern territory; no desert textures up here. The forested plateaus grew thicker, the trees denser, and the grass greener. It was a welcome sight for me.

“There it is,” said Tal as we approached the tall wooden fence surrounding the encampment. She kicked her heels into her horse, hurrying ahead of us. “Go ahead and get settled. I’ll meet up with you at our tent.”

I nodded to her. Saffron and Mirabelle followed as I picked up several quests, then arranged lodging for us. I was curious about the promise of a stronghold that the game had originally suggested. That had to wait until level 60 — the level cap for this version of the game. I wasn’t positive I’d get the expansion yet, but it was a possibility.

Apparently, a stronghold could be in any city you pleased, and could take the form of an elaborate tent, house, Western-style lodge, or even a ranch. I liked the idea of raising horses and maybe obtaining an adjoining forge so I could craft my own weapons.

The stronghold’s other purpose, of course, would be to house my girls. As I thought about that, I envisioned Mirabelle and Saffron with me day-by-day, eager to see to my needs. I shifted my weight, standing in the doorway of the tent, my crotch suddenly quite uncomfortable as I started to harden. If Talimeh joined us, as well, I’d have three beautiful women eagerly at my beck and call. Damn, is that all I can think about?

As Saffron swayed past me, giving me a flirty smile on her way into the tent, my eyes followed her. Apparently yes, it was all I could think about.

But before I could follow her, Talimeh appeared behind me, taking my arm. “It turns out there’s a hitch.”

“A hitch?”

She nodded. “The woman I was supposed to deliver my amulet to? She’s been captured.”

I frowned. “By whom?”

“The Red Ghouls.” Talimeh’s voice was grim. “They’re one of the most vicious packs alive. They have a cave to the north where they hide out, waiting to prey on passing travelers.”

“Let me get the others. We’ll set out immediately.” I sounded far too thrilled to be heading off to fight the worst ghouls in the game, but there it was.

“Hang on, there. We can’t bring the others. Only two people can enter the cave at one time.”

“What?” I asked, puzzled.

Tali nodded. “There was a curse placed on the entrance years ago.
