Chapter Two

She blinked back the sleepiness clinging to her vision, savoring the taste of vodka on Matteo’s tongue. “What are you doing here?” Her gaze went from Roman’s to Matteo’s.

He moved his hand from her throat to tip her chin up and angled her face toward him. “I told you the last time I’d find you again. Do you think just because Roman is here you’re safe? Safe from me?”

He kissed her again, spreading her legs wide with his thick thigh. She clutched at his wet shirt, uncaring of the water seeping through her nightwear.

Safe? With them? Laughable, yet not. Because fear was the last thing she felt with the ruthless mafia kings, but safe? Not in the slightest. Not from their hunger. Nor her own. But how did she answer that without walking into a trap?

She pushed his hand from beneath her chin and shoved at his chest. But her efforts gave no return. He smirked at her, wiping at the corners of his mouth.

Right when she thought he would turn and walk away, he nodded with understanding his hand brushing over her cheek.

“Mm. That’s right. I recall your screaming orgasm too. So don’t act like you didn’t like me taking you against the wall.” He ran the tip of his tongue over the pulse point in her neck before nipping the tender flesh of her earlobe. She shuddered uncontrollably.

“I told you to run while you could. I remember now. But guess what, my little birdie…” he lowered his mouth to hers and rubbed their lips together. A soft brushing that screamed tenderness but she knew danger when it lurked outside her door and this man meant trouble with every ounce of his massive being.

She closed her eyes briefly to shake away the final remnants of sleep. After a while of just holding her, Rhia had finally dozed in Roman’s arms. And for a little while she found a way to forget about the break-in, how alone she felt, and how deep she stood in a dark world she didn’t understand or belong in. Then a loud sound—thunder, now that she was fully awake—practically threw her into the hallway, her heart pounding. When she stepped outside her door her first instinct was to run for the back exit.
