Chapter Sixteen

I am so glad when the fight ends and the announcer has one of Mysti’s arms in the air as the audience of people cheer with excitement because Mysti is the winner.

I didn’t really watch the fight, but I am completely surprised that her little bitty self, beat that huge woman.

We all exit the building and walk over towards my daddy’s ride.

Siles is too busy talking it up with Polo about another bet on Mysti’s upcoming fight that Siles want in on.

I hop in the backseat right back in between Serek and Coke. My daddy starts up his truck and we all sit back, waiting for Siles to get in.

Back at the house I waste no time running into the house and up the stairs to a sleeping Zoe.

She’s out of this world, lying in the bed snoring her little heart out.

I don’t bother messing with her. Instead I quietly get undressed and put on my night gown.

Easing into the bed next to Zoe, I stare up at the ceiling as that person with the hoodie invades my mind.

“Who was that?” I question out loud to myself as I feel Zoe turning in her sleep I decide to shut up and go to sleep.

At least I can try to.

The very next morning Zoe is back to her normal self as she and I sit at the kitchen eating breakfast with Mrs. Lea cleaning up after cooking for the whole house.

Even though Zoe still has a swollen face, she somewhat looks content.

I stare over at her as she nibbles on her toast and slurps up her milk that she, poured too much of into her blueberry oatmeal.

“You okay?” I ask, reaching across the table to grab her hand. Once I do, I notice my pinky hits the table but not hers since she no longer as a pinky on that hand anymore.

She looks up smiling. “Yeah, I am good.”

Before I can say anything else, I see Verlean strolling into the kitchen with Celina in a pretty pink and white stroller.

Instantly I hop up and move towards the stroller. I kneel down, touching Celina’s tiny hands.

Verlean moves away from the stroller and heads over to the refrigerator while saying something slick as always.

“Don’t get too happy to see her. We’re about to go shopping together.”

I rub Celina’s hands and she opens her eyes, looking at me. My heart nearly breaks in half when I see her eyes.

I so want her in my arms. I want her to lay on my chest and listen to my heartbeat as I pat her to sleep. I want to sit back in that rocking chair and give her bottle.

My happiness of seeing Celina disappears as soon as Siles steps into the kitchen shouting, “What a fucking morning!” He strolls past me and Celina. I stand up from my kneeling position and see a woman’s bare feet walking right behind Siles.

Standing completely up, I turn to find some chick following behind Siles in nothing but a pair of Siles’ boxers and one of his long white T-shirts.
