Chapter Thirteen
Aisha was tugged along by Emma. She kept looking back and wanted to run back to Drake.
âHere we are,â Emma said.
Aisha turned to Devon when he said her name.
âHoney, if at any time you need to go back to him, just tell me, and Iâll take you back.â
She exhaled and nodded. âAll right.â
âCome over here, Aisha.â
There was a small room in Devonâs office. There was no wall to keep him from seeing them and no door for them to get out of without crossing in front of his desk.
âIâve got coloring books. You can practice writing English or watch a movie. Whatever you want.â
âIâd like to watch a movie, please. Iâm learning a lot of slang from the television.â
Emma grinned. âWe can only watch PG movies, so thereâs not a lot of that in them.â
They picked out a movie and sat on the small, very comfortable sofa. Aisha had no idea how much time passed, and she started to get sleepy.
âHereâs a blanket. The sofaâs long enough for us both to lie down if we bend our legs.â
âIâd like that.â
A sound above her woke her up. The first thing she saw was a man she didnât know leaning over her. She jerked away from him and looked over to the desk. Her heartbeat spiked in her chest when she saw Devon was gone.
Emma had woken up, and her eyes were wide with alarm. âMister, who are you?â
The man chuckled. âA colleague. What are you two beautiful, sexy women doing here?â
âMister, my daddy wonât like it if you keep talking to us,â Emma said and pulled Aisha to sit next to her.
The manâs eyebrows rose. âDaddy? Thereâs no way Mr. Fowler has a daughter your age. So whoâs your daddy?â
âYouâll have to talk to Devon about it.â
âWhy canât I sit beside you both while I wait?â The man started to walk around the sofa to sit next to them.
Devon walked in. âWhat the fuck are you doing, Mathews?â He grabbed the guyâs arm and yanked him out of the room.
Aisha heard their angry voices and wanted to know what was said.
âWhat in the hell were you doing?â
âI was just talking to them. Jesus, itâs no big deal,â Mathews said.
âI saw their faces. They were both scared.â
âTheyâre fine. I wasnât saying anything suggestive to them, for fuckâs sake.â
âI donât give a fuck what you were saying. You just talking to them was enough. When youâre in this building, you stay away from the women you see here. Besides some of the secretaries, they all belong to someone.â
Mathews snorted. âBelong? Thatâs a weird way to say it.â
âNot at all.â
âThat chick was talking about a daddy. You guys arenât into some weird shit, are you?â
âNothing we do is your business or up for discussion. If you want to continue to work with us, you do what I say.â
âFuck. Fine, whatever,â Mathews said and walked off.
Devon came back right away. âDid he scare you, girls?â
Emma nodded. âHe was really creepy.â
Devon sat on the end of the sofa.
