Cynic

He hadn’t lied when he said he’d sleep next to her, but he wouldn’t be happy about it. He was determined to kiss her again because the hold she had on his jeans earlier told him she really liked kissing him. And she was a helluva good kisser.

The moment his mouth met hers, he made certain the kiss was different. By her car, he’d been predatory and demanding. This kiss was gentle and slow. Only when her hands slid up his chest to his neck did he break it off.

“You always end things when they’re getting good,” she whispered.

He grinned. “Would say I’m sorry, but it’s good to leave you wanting more, babe.”

“So, you’re a tease?”

He laughed. “That’s rich, Fiona. You’ve been teasing me since the day I met you.”

Her hands fell away. “I have not!”

The shaker sat on the counter behind her. He grabbed it, and moved to the fridge. “You sure as hell have, and even when you don’t mean to do it, you wear that damn shirt—”

“By the way, you ruined that shirt for me.”

After he dumped the lime juice, he shot her a glare. “How did I ruin your shirt?”

“Every time I wear it, I think of you,” she said in a low voice. Then she added, “And I can’t wear it because I remember how damned angry you were about it.”

The rum almost fell out of his hand as he breathed out a chuckle. “That wasn’t anger.”

“You seemed angry.”

He put the bottle down. Looked at her and said, “I was frustrated.”

“Right.”

With the pint glass shoved into the top of the shaker, he gave the cocktail a vigorous shake. The noise kept him from saying anything further. He poured their drinks and handed one to her.

“Sit down, I’m gonna take care of Bear. You feel like getting out of your dress, you can wear one of my t-shirts.”

She nodded and went to the living room.

He had hoped she’d want one of his tees.

No such luck.
