Chapter Six

Honaw ran alongside his mate, all the while trying to contact Eros. Aphrodite had never taken him during this week. Something or someone had set Aphrodite off, and as Honaw watched Erin, he had a bad feeling he was staring right at her. Aphrodite didn’t care that he and Eros were mated, because he was a man, but Eros having a female was something different.

Even Eros had been worried about her reaction to Erin. Honaw sighed and looked up at Erin as she jumped onto a large boulder and stared down at him. A large cave slopped downward behind her.

He jumped up next to her as Adam lay down in front of them and scanned the horizon, giving them time alone. “So this is your little haven.” He laughed as she stretched.

“I come here to think or when I’m depressed, which in the last year was a lot. At night you can sit here and hear the mice scurry across the desert floor. It’s so peaceful and the night sky is so clear, like you can touch the stars. I was here yesterday morning when I knew you were coming. I felt it. The cat knew we would find you.” She lay down, staring out at nothing.

Erin shifted and lay on the warm rock, looking up at the sky. “What do we do when he comes back, Honaw? Will he want me still, or will I remind him of her?”

He shifted too and sat down next to her, then pulled her to him. “It’s touchy when he comes back. Each time is different. We’ll have to play it by ear, Erin. Just know when he returns, he’s not the same. He’s learned how to shut himself down when he’s with her.” He nuzzled her neck.

“You’re not telling me something. You’re worried this time, though.” She gazed up at him.

“When we were mated and she summoned me, she didn’t mind us being mated because I’m a man, but with Eros now being mated with you, a female, it could get nasty.” Honaw hugged her tighter.

“Will she come after me? Or will she try and hurt him?” She growled and tensed in his arms.

“We don’t know. No one knows what she’ll do next. That’s one of the reasons everyone gives her room.”

“What she needs is her eyes clawed out. Maybe if everyone would stop giving her everything she wants and tell her no, she’d stop,” she shouted, hoping the stupid bitch heard her.

“Honaw, she’s on the warpath and aiming for Erin. I’ll be there soon. I have to see the council. This has to stop!” Eros growled.

“Shift now, Erin. We have to get back to the house.” Honaw grabbed her and jumped off the boulder, looking to Adam. “We have trouble. Follow me, and when we enter the house, take your mother and sister to the basement. Keep everyone quiet.” Honaw waved his hand, and a portal opened before him. “Let’s go.” He nodded to Adam, who just stared at the thing.
