“Thank you. I owe you my life. Now, let’s get you to Sandy Bottom. It’s impossible to get in through the main city gates ever since the monster attacked, but as a kid I had a summer job working in sand filtration. I know those tunnels like the back of my claws!”

One by one, Rai gently lifts the children onto her back and they scuttle off at surprising speed, with Angus following close behind.

After scuttling though a maze of tunnels and pipes, Rai suddenly stops.

“This is it,” she reveals.

Rai reaches up with one of her long crab legs and slowly opens a round metal grate above them. As she peers out, using her long eyestalks, a ball of seaweed tumbles past – the city is deserted. The group climb out of the secret tunnel and onto one of the main streets. This once vast, bustling metropolis is now an empty, decaying shell. All life and colour drained from its core. Angus, Rai, and the children wander deeper into the city. A green algae covers everything, spreading through the empty streets, shops, and homes, while plastic bags float by like ghosts. All of a sudden, in the dark gloom, they notice flashes of bright orange and gold zip through the gaps between the coral buildings and archways.
