The Waves of the Body
Since we are speaking about energy, waves, and health, it’s important to include the waves of our hearts and brains—the two largest electromagnetic fields of the body—and how crystals interact with them.
According to HeartMath Institute director of research Rollin McCraty, in his paper The Energetic Heart: “The heart generates the largest electromagnetic field in the body. The electrical field as measured in an electrocardiogram (ECG) is about 60 times greater in amplitude than the brain waves recorded in an encephalogram (EEG).”41
The HeartMath Institute has demonstrated that 0.1 Hz is the frequency of the human heart. Heart rate variability gives us an enormous amount of information about health. It indicates psychological resiliency, behavioral flexibility, and our ability to adapt to the changing demands of our environment. It also helps us to see health not simply as the absence of illness but as a process through which we maintain a sense of meaning and coherence, and through which we function in the face of change and other challenges.42
Researchers at the HeartMath Institute have noted that when we are focused on inner love and peace, the heart sends coherent energy patterns to the rest of the body, including the brain. Crystals can aid in this activity, as they resonate with the heart’s crystalline structures and can help balance and create a coherent state and invite well-being into our lives.
And then there are the waves of the brain, which are similarly connected to our health in that they reveal information about our relationships to fear, anxiety, depression, and suffering, but also about our wellness. Brain waves are electrical impulses produced by our neurons, which also communicate with each other by means of electrical impulses. These brain waves can be observed with an electroencephalogram (EEG). The lower the brain wave frequency, the slower the brain activity.
There are four brain wave states, ranging from deep, dreamless sleep to high arousal. The same four states are common to the human species.
The beta wave state (13 to 30 Hz) is associated with active engagement in mental activities. However, it’s also related to overthinking and fear, stress, paranoia, and addiction.
The alpha wave state (7 to 13 Hz) represents a state of relaxation or concentration. It relates to self-observation, eliminating physical and psychic tensions, rapid learning, and a positive, reflective attitude. Your stresses and worries drift away when you enter the alpha state. Tension and nervousness also disappear as your brain’s thought process is calmed down and the mind becomes clearer. The “feel good” effect of alpha waves leads to the production of happy and well-functioning cells in your body, as well as the release of serotonin.
The theta wave state (4 to 7 Hz) is connected with mental trances, dreaming, imagination, visualization, and creativity. This type of brain activity has been suggested to improve inner awareness and insight.
The delta wave state (1.5 to 4 Hz) is most common in deep sleep, as well as among infants and young children, who are involved in unconscious learning. This
