Tomato and Cheese Tart
Here, we have a savory pasty perfect for breakfast.
Yield: 1 Tart
Time: 40 mins.
Ingredients:
puff pastry (1 sheet frozen)
basil (2 tablespoons, fresh and chopped)
cheddar cheese (shredded)
mozzarella cheese (½ cup, shredded)
mayonnaise (3 tablespoons)
tomatoes (2, sliced thin)
Salt and Pepper (to taste)
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
2. After slicing the tomatoes, place between individual sheets of paper towel then let dry for approx., 30 minutes.
3. Retrieve pastry sheet from the refrigerator then let sit at room temperature.
4. Using parchment paper, line a baking sheet then unfold pastry onto sheet.
5. To avoid dough puffing up during baking, insert a fork throughout the dough as well as around the edges.
6. Pinch or fold up the edges of the dough to form a crust. Spoon the mayonnaise on the pastry surface into a thin layer.
7. Evenly distribute shredded cheese and then tomatoes. Salt and pepper generously, then top with chopped basil.
8. Bake for approx., 30 minutes until cheese has melted and the edges are golden.
9. Allow cooling to apply for approx., 5 minutes before serving.
