Spell Check, Proofread, Look Stuff Up
For the duration of your job search, your emails and letters are an example of the type of work you would do for an employer. If your contacts get emails with silly emoticons, txt spellings, and errors in them, they are going to be reluctant to share leads with you. They will be reluctant to vouch for you, or let you use their names as a referral. It is not enough to use spell-check, by the way. You will need to engage your brain, to see if the words are used correctly, not just spelled correctly. Their are five misteaks in this sentence, misteaks that any manger should fine. You’ll need to look up the correct spelling of words that are not in any dictionary, like company names, and the proper names of products, software, geographical locations, and so on.
The careful use of language is not just a sign of a good education; it is considered a sign of intelligence. Don’t let anyone think you’re not all that bright because you skip proofreading.
