“We have to one-up her! I can’t lose this thing,” I say, motoring into my bedroom, my mind racing with so many thoughts about one thing—winning.

“Calm down, B,” Lucy says, so sure of herself. “We just need one big stunt to drive this thing home.”

“Like what?” I pout. “I don’t have her arsenal of weapons to fight back. All I have is… you all.”

“Ouch,” Lucy says, sucking her teeth. “Harsh much?”

“I didn’t mean it that way.”

“But we are enough, B,” Lyric says, smiling. “We’re more than enough.”

I turn and check in with Lyric; clearly, I’m missing something. “Did you just inherit a whole hotel from the Darbys?”

“Even better than that,” she says before launching into a song. “See, what I was trying to tell you at Pinkberry Headquarters is that I have a singing voice that can knock this town’s socks off.”

“Oookay,” I say. “But we already know that. You’re going to be cast as Dorothy and go on tour one day and take over the world with Blue Ivy.” I turn to Lucy and Stella Rose, who both shrug. “What’s that got to do with my dismal cookie sales?”

“News flash: You were right when you said that you’ve got us—because you do. We each bring something special to the table.”

“Still not following,” I say, throwing my hands in the air.

Stella Rose takes out her camera and starts recording. “I’m not following either, but I do know that sparks fly every time Lyric gets that golden twinkle in her eye.”

“See,” Lyric continues, pulling me onto the bed with her. “I can sing.” Then she points to Stella Rose and nods. “And she can shoot, direct, and edit.”

“All facts,” says Stella Rose from behind the lens, nodding.

Lucy raises her hand in the air. “Not sure where she’s going with this, but I can design my butt off.”

Lyric twirls her hands around her head. She’s almost as excited as when she decided that a Black Dorothy would set the town on fire. “Look. We have enough talent to reach hundreds, maybe even thousands with the right combo of our gifts. And trust me, it’ll be much more exciting and entertaining than a boring old commercial.”

We all stop breathing and stare at her. She stares back. Then we’re all staring at each other—until she finally reveals, “We’re going to make a music video!”

“Ohhh,” I sing back to her.

“Was that not clear?” Lyric frowns.

We all shake our heads at her. Nope.

“Not even a little,” Lucy says, cocking her head to the side and crinkling her brows.

Lyric rolls her eyes at Lucy before turning to me. “Well? What do you think?”

“I’m in,” Stella Rose says, standing up to shove her arm into our circle with her palm facing the shaggy throw rug.

“Same,” Lucy says, smiling with her whole face as she puts her hand over Stella Rose’s.

“B?” they all say, looking at me.

“I think… I think…” I stand, too, and toss my arm into the circle and pile it right on top of theirs. “It’s
