6.2 Methods

Nuclear medicine including PET and SPECT is now a common protocol in clinic using, for liver function evaluation, where liver uptake index has been widely accepted. It is also interesting to check the ratio of healthy and dysfunctional liver regions for liver function reserve and preoperative assessment. Nevertheless, manual delineation and subjective assessment are obviously not a favorite choice. Computerized segmentation and analysis [1] are not directly applicable in face of these weak-contrast and ambiguous-boundary nuclear medicine images (Fig. 6.1). Here we propose a new solution by using mean shift for preparatory partition and further enhancing HJ-LSM for optimal segmentation.
