Measure the thickness of the tape to determine the amount of offset it will create (this particular tape was .005” thick)…

…and then press down an appropriate number of tape layers to the correct final thickness (12 layers were needed here to build up a total of .060”).

Small amounts of clay can fill in areas where the tape will not conform well to the curved surfaces of the mold.

After you have created the dummy part, mix up silicone resin and pour it into the remaining cavity. Medium rigidity silicones tend to work best in this compression process, so select a resin that has a final Shore A hardness of 15 to 30. Allow the silicone to fully cure and then remove it from the mold cavity. Trim off any flash on the silicone insert. Finally, remove the dummy part, and prepare the mold for lamination of the final composite component.
