CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Kenzo

Trix retreated after my comments about marriage, and I let her, knowing she needed time to process. Besides, with moving into the new house and everything going down with the club and Hoffman, it wasn’t like I didn’t have a thousand other things to focus on.

What Trix doesn’t know is that it was one of the companies I manage with Atlas that bought her house. That shit about a developer buying all the houses in the row was just bullshit to get Simon to sell. I had Tony make the offer, and after a brief time to think about it, he agreed. Like I knew he would. Now I just have to make sure she can’t find anywhere to live because her home is with me now.

I pull out my cell phone and hit dial as the car slows thanks to downtown traffic. Pete looks at me in the rearview mirror and nods just as Trix answers.

“Hello?” she pants.

“What have you been doing that has you sounding out of breath?” I clench the phone so hard I’m surprised it doesn’t crack. We haven’t talked about exclusivity, but I figured it was implied. Perhaps she needs a reminder.

“I’m cleaning the damn house. What the heck do you think I’m doing?”

When I don’t answer, she growls. “Are you serious right now? You thought I was fucking someone else? Why would you think that when I’m not even fucking you?”

“I—”

I don’t get anything else out before she hangs up. I stare at the phone in shock. I hit dial again, but she ignores it. It rings multiple times before going to voicemail, so I hang up and call again. I keep doing it until, eventually, she picks up and snarls at me.

“I’m sorry. I can’t take your call right now. I’m too busy sucking dick. If you’d like to leave a message, please do so after the tone unless your name is Kenzo the douche canoe. He can kiss my ass.”

She hangs up again.

I look up when I hear Pete laughing in the front seat. I didn’t realize I had the volume up that loud. I toss my phone on the seat beside me and lean forward.

“Change of plans, Pete. I need to head home for a few minutes.”

“Alright.”

I lean my head back and close my eyes just as my phone rings. I reach for it and see it’s Atlas.

“Are you on your way?” he asks by way of greeting.

“Just need to run a quick errand, then yeah. What’s up?”

“Ivy wants you to bring Trix for dinner.”

“Oh, Ivy does, huh? And it has nothing to do with her husband’s curiosity about my woman.”

“We’ll set something up. You’ll bring wine and I’ll play nice.” He hangs up. Lucky for him, it doesn’t have the same effect on me as when Trix does it.

I lean back once more and close my eyes as Pete drives. I let my mind conjure up images of the last week. Having Trix move in with me was a stroke of genius on my part, if I do say so myself, even if she thinks it’s only temporary.
