Chapter Thirteen
Ruby
I got dressed quickly, making a little more effort with my appearance today than I had yesterday. Putting on a bit of makeup, I styled my red hair in waves that framed my face. Grabbing my red leather jacket from the chair, as I left my room. I walked to the manor with my head held high. I couldnât let the other kids here think they had beaten me. I walked into the great hall and headed straight to the food counter. I decided to take a couple of toast slices, a bowl of mixed fruit and headed towards the table where most of the girls had hair like me. I sat down in the empty seat, ignoring the whispers around me, and started eating my food.
A girl with ruby colored hair, and golden eyes looking at me curiously. âIâm Scarlet, and youâre the girl who beat up Regan?â
âYep.â I replied taking a bite of toast.
âIs that all you are going to tell us?â She asks moving her chair closer to me.
âWhat more is there to say?â I take a long sip of my juice.
âRegan can be a bitch.â She nods.
âI wished someone had told me that before I agreed to be partnered up with her.â I rub my neck, which feels stiff all of a sudden.
She flips her long hair. âMaybe if you had come out of your room, instead of hiding away, we could have filled you in.â
âI wasnât ready for company yesterday.â I say between bites of my food
âBut you are now?â She frowns.
âI guess so. If I am going to be stuck here for a while, I canât spend all my time hiding in my room.â
âSo, whatâs with the jacket?â She asks, moving her hand towards me.
I lean out of her reach. âItâs a part of who I am. If I am going to be stuck here for a while, I need to be myself.â
âWell, you look great, but Ms. Reid isnât going to like it.â
âI donât care. I canât stay here if I canât be myself.â
âWell, if you are going to be here a while. Iâd better introduce everyone.â I followed her arm movement as she gestured around the table. She pointed at a girl with pastel pink hair. âThis is Savannah, sheâs a freshman. She turned to the girl sitting next to her with hair the color of wine. âThis is my roommate Addison, and the girl next to her is Lizzy,â She said, pointing to the petite strawberry blonde. âThe girl next to you is Natalie, and then we have Stella.â She points toward the end of the table. âFinally we have the twins Everly and Avery.â The two identical girls with bright copper hair smiled at me their russet eyes glowed wickedly, and I knew these two girls would be trouble.
âHi, Iâm Ruby.â
âWe know.â Scarlet stated, speaking for everyone. âSo now that the introductions have been made, will we see you in the dorm tonight?â
âYes. I will be there.â I reply my voice less enthusiastic than hers.
