Factors That Control Silver Coin Prices.

There are many factors that determine the rise and fall of the value of silver coins and demand is often fuelled by their popularity and rarity. One of the rare silver coin specimens that is sought after by avid coin collectors is the 1913 Liberty Head nickel as there are only five in existence.

• Rarity

Although rarity is one of the major factors used to determine the value of silver coins, rarity is not always linked to age. Certain ancient Chinese coins can be purchased for a few dollars because there are too many on the market, while the 1913 Liberty Head nickel mentioned above is priced at over one million US dollars because of its rarity. Silver error coins with mint or strike mistakes are also valued for their rarity as opposed to their age.
