Separate shapes created in the Paint Editor can be moved separately to bring an animated character to life. In Scratch, each variation of a single sprite is referred to as a costume.

Here are some of the advanced things that are possible with the Paint Editor’s vector tools:

• Make shapes that can be altered with points

• Draw with the brush, line, circle, or rectangle tools

• Add or delete anchor points with the reshape tool; click to add an anchor point, double-click to delete an anchor point

• Use the paint bucket tool to fill in shapes

• Outline shapes with different colors or widths

• Use the Fill and Outline buttons to choose colors

• Group shapes using the select tool and the Group button

• Ungroup shapes by selecting them and clicking the Ungroup button

• Duplicate shapes by using the Copy and Paste buttons

• Use the Flip Horizontal or Flip Vertical buttons to change an object’s orientation along an axis

• Move objects in front or behind each other using the Forward, Backward, Front, and Back buttons

• Add text to a sprite or make a text sprite with the text tool
