Kade was in his room studying when a knock came on the door. He knitted his brow, because Beau didn't usually have such a delicate touch. Then he remembered that Alisse was in the house.

Great. She was probably going to lecture him about ignoring Danny's texts all day. And he knew it was a shitty thing to do, but he couldn't deal with Danny right now. Couldn't deal with the fact that he, Kade Goreki, was bisexual.

He didn't know what that meant for him. He was still attracted to girls, after all. How could he expect his family to accept Danny? How could he expect his family to accept him if he brought Danny home? Rural North Carolina was not exactly the most progressive place on earth. He wasn't even sure Danny would be safe there.

Any way Kade looked at it, it sucked. How could he have let his dick do this to him? It wasn't a smart choice. If he'd restrained himself, he could have gotten over Danny, and Danny could have gotten over him.

Now, he was stuck. He couldn't get out of this relationship without breaking Danny's heart. And his own. The truth was, he didn't want out of the relationship. No one had ever made him feel as good as Danny did.

The problem wasn't Danny, or him. It was the rest of the world.

Sighing, he rose from the desk. He opened the door—but it wasn't Alisse. It was Danny.

Except, it didn’t really look like Danny. He was unshaven, wearing jeans, a navy shirt, and a windbreaker. No makeup. Nothing flowy. Just…guy clothes.

And he looked hot as fuck.

Damn it.

Heat rushed over him. He wanted to pull Danny into his arms, but he didn’t dare. He needed to figure this out, and he couldn't think clearly with Danny so close. Yet, Danny looked incredibly sad, and that just killed him. Kade wanted to make Danny happy, the way Danny made him happy.

"Can I come in?" Danny's voice was soft, almost pleading, with no hint of recrimination. That alone almost undid Kade.

Kade stepped back so Danny could enter, then shut the door behind him. "You look—"

"I know. Ridiculous."

"Sexy. Fuckable."

The corners of Danny's mouth turned up. "Yeah?"

"I just…I can't touch you right now. My head's not on straight yet."

"Good. I'm hoping to keep you gay."

"Ha, ha."

Danny sighed and shoved his hands into his pockets. He looked down at the floor for a few moments, then up at Kade. "Whatever you're thinking, we can talk about it. You don't have to go through this alone."

Kade's throat thickened. He couldn't remember the last time he had someone to take care of him.

Actually, he could. It was when he was seven years old, the day before the drunk driver killed his mama. The world stopped making sense after that. He'd had to grow up right quick.

He sank onto the bed, his mind a swirling, tumbling mess. Falling in love with Danny was probably the worst complication he could imagine. Except it was too late. He was already in love.
