CHAPTER 15

The next few days are pure bliss as we fall into a routine. During the day, I work on pieces for my show in the apartment, while Marceau works on his indoor climbing wall. We come together to share meals and take walks at the end of the day. Sometimes Marceau climbs, and I prefer to take pictures than join him. I have some greats shots and a project in mind.

I’ve been here for almost two weeks when I realize I don’t miss New York. I’m happy. Who would have guessed I’d find contentment in Leavenworth, Washington, with a blond-haired Adonis? I’m sitting cross-legged on the floor of the climbing gym, watching Marceau work, lost in my musing.

“Andrea.” From Marceau’s tone, I can tell he’s said my name many times. He hops off the ladder and walks towards me. “A penny for your thoughts?”

“That’s all you got?” I say.

He laughs and says, “I know you’re teasing, but I did receive a wire from the network for the documentary. It will be airing soon. I have substantially more than a penny.”

Why is he telling me this? The confusion must show on my face because he says, “Just letting you know that I’m serious about this, and I am a man of means.”

“Are you asking me to move here?”

“Only if you’ll say yes.”

I’m flabbergasted. He reaches for my hand. I accept, and he helps me up. When he moves to hug me, I put a hand on his chest. “Marceau, we have a pretty big, unresolved issue between us.”

“Kids?”

I nod.

“We can adopt.”

“Wait.” I step away from him. “Have you decided not to have your own children because of me?”

He looks at the ground, then his eyes bore into mine. “Don’t make me answer that question.”

“Please answer. I have to know.”

He growls, and I step further back. “What matters is I love you, Andrea. A part of me has loved you since high school. Getting to know you as a woman, makes me want to have you as my woman, forever.” He stares at me with his beautiful eyes, and I feel myself melting into them. “Tell me. I know you feel it, too.”

“I do,” I admit. “From the very beginning, it has been magical. Call it fate or whatever, but I feel like something bigger than us has taken over.”

He moves slowly towards me and whispers, “Sometimes we have to make sacrifices, make tough choices.”

Tears spring to my eyes. I can’t let him make such a sacrifice for me!

“Please,” he says, “we don’t have to figure it out right now.”

But we do my inner voice protests. Time will only make this harder down the road.

“Let me take you to dinner tonight. I want to show you how charming my town is.”

I don’t protest when he leads me to the bathroom where we shower together. As he soaps my front and turns me to soap my back, thoughts of dinner fly out of my head.

Marceau is determined, though. The showerhead is detachable, and he rinses me thoroughly before kissing me senseless.
