every muscle he had in his body he jumped into the air. He watched as the puck came toward him. It was coming so fast that it was only a blur! Thud! The sound was heard from one end of the arena to the other end. The young goalie was more surprised than anyone because he caught the puck. It couldn’t have been any noisier if a bomb had exploded. The fans went wild! There was screaming, hollering, and whistling going on.

Lucas heard nothing. This was the fastest and hardest puck he had ever caught. It felt like it was going to pull his arm right out of its socket. The force of the puck did lift him higher into the air before he fell back on the ice. That was not what was worrying Lucas. You see, Hugo had not even slowed down and was heading directly at the helpless goalie lying on the ice. What Lucas had worried about all along was about to take place. He was about to take some lumps from Hugo.

Skating to within inches of Lucas, Hugo dug his skates into the ice and sprayed the goalie with an ice shower. Then looking down at Lucas with his cold, steel, and gray eyes he said, “Nice stop kid.” He then proceeded to skate away.

Looking after Hugo as he skated away Lucas realized that this was no bully. He was an intense hockey player who gave one hundred percent for his team. A player who played hard and remained concentrated all the while he played.

As Lucas’ teammates all rushed down to congratulate him on winning the tournament, Lucas took one last look at Hugo. Then a smile came over his face as he said to himself. There goes not only a

tremendous hockey player, but also a terrific athlete and a real sportsman.

“You know-he’s just like me!” Lucas snickered.
