Marduk

I watched as the demigod squirmed in the chains I had him hanging by. His eyes had turned purple and he cursed at me, his human muscles contracting as he tried to break free. His hair was slicked with sweat, the magic in his veins twisting like serpents.

It was laughable that he expected he would break free so easily.

I wondered what would happen if I let my vampires feed on him and turn him? Would it mingle with his demigod blood and make him stronger? Or would it poison him and bring him a terribly painful death? I really was curious. It had been awhile since I had taken a child of the gods. I remembered him too. The lover of Zarpanit.

My gut twisted with rage. If I had one reason to hate the demigods, it alone could be the fact that he slept with what was mine.

When Amondeus and the vampire had dragged him in, I had barely recognized him. Death had been kinder to him than I would have liked. His powers had grown and seemed under control now. The Cain I remembered had been insane. Traveling between my realm and the human realm had slowly started to warp his mind until he was no longer human and not a god either. I’d watched his descent with cold curiosity.

And now here he was again, running around with the last nephilim. He had been the first, created by a god and goddess using a human shell to birth him.

It was really a disgrace that they even existed. To mate with a human and create such a creature. Awful. Disgusting.

Only one had ever enchanted me but I was certain looking back that I had been under a spell.

And now she was here, roaming the realm of the gods.

Fury burst through me and I bellowed, “Silence you insignificant piece of shit!”

He looked at me, his own rage apparent. I saw such hatred. I surpassed a nasty grin.

I stepped towards him, sneering in his face. “Where is she? Where is the girl? Did you really think you could waltz in here and not be captured?” I hissed, watching my spit hit his face.

He blinked, wiping his eyes on his shoulder. “She lost me in the maze, Marduk.”

“King Marduk!” I corrected him. I smiled wickedly. “Tell me where-“

I was interrupted by the clomping footsteps of Amondeus. He came down the spiral staircase that led to my interrogation room. I already sensed he held information that would displease me. “What is it, Amondeus?”

“Shamash has been set free.”

Rage struck me like lightening but instead of throwing something or killing the demigod, I kept it inside me. I would bottle up every amount of fury and unleash it on Zarpanit when the time was right. I drew in a steady breath. “How long has he been free?”

“Two hours or so…”

“They can’t have gone far. Search the gardens-“

“They have left the gardens. I’m certain of it.”

I grit my teeth, feeling them sharpen. I rolled my neck slowly, cracking it on both sides.
