The silence is deafening for you, isn’t it, Julia?

Just waiting and waiting and waiting. Sitting here in an interrogation room, with only the chair your ass rests on and the table in front of it to keep you company. There’s a pack of cigarettes on the table with a lighter and an ashtray. You reach for them and put a cigarette between your lips.

While you light it, you replay the events in your head. How could things have gotten so fucked up? You were so close to finding out who Slick was working for, and then you could’ve brought down the entire cartel. You and your buddies in the DEA.

There is a single light hanging over your head. It’s like a scene out of a movie. Pretty soon a spooky voice will come over the intercom and you’ll have to answer some questions. Then maybe they’ll try to arrest you and you’ll have to fight your way to freedom.

Of course, that’s not how these things really work. Instead, you hear the sound of the single door in the room opening and in walks a man in a suit, carrying a manila folder. He sits across from you and opens the folder. He wears glasses and he has short, blond hair and a goatee. He takes off the glasses and wipes them with a cloth, then replaces them.

“Good morning, Agent Lang,” he said. “I want to thank you for meeting with me today. As you’re no doubt aware, there’s some… inconsistency with the report you filed on the… *ahem* the incident at the Elite. So I was wondering if you could tell me what happened.”

“It’s just like I told you, this guy showed up in the club, not a regular, never seen him before. I just go about my job, try serving him. I notice he’s not making eyes at me, nor is he even looking at the girls. Instead, he’s staring down Slick the entire time. I asked him what he wanted with Slick and he told me he was going to kill him. Next thing I know, this weird guy walks over there and starts harassing Slick. I tried to intervene, but the guy stopped me. Then, Slick tried to get him thrown out, but the stranger went nuts and disabled the bodyguards. Slick told the strippers and me to go into the back room, but I still watched everything that happened.”

“So you’re saying what happened to those men, the way they were killed, it was all caused by one man?”

“That’s what I put in my report,” you say.

“So it is,” he says. “I just wanted to hear it from you.”

“The guy… I don’t know what he was. He… changed. And… he was just like an animal. Nothing could stop him. They kept shooting him, but they didn’t even slow him down. It’s like he didn’t even care.”

“And then?”

“Then Slick came rushing into the back room and the guy followed him in. He told us all to leave and that’s it.
