“No, because, for one thing, that kind of heavy duty recruiting is totally passé these days. In any event, Donny is too smart and too much of a realist to buy into that kind of crap. I don’t know enough about the other two kids to even guess.”

Matt smiled. “You said ‘Donny is,’ which I take to mean you don’t really believe he’s dead. But do you have any idea as to what may have happened?”

“Not really. Dad believes he took enough of his money to hold him until he found a job, and one of these days he’ll get in touch.

I’d like to believe that, too, but I’m just not sure. Maybe they all took off and found new lives for themselves, and maybe they all got involved in something else, something they couldn’t handle.
