CHAPTER TWELVE

Hannah

I splashed cold water on my face and straightened to look at the woman in the mirror. Simon had stayed with me until a message from Abrams had pulled him reluctantly from the bed. We’d spent the morning talking about anything and everything but the situation at hand. He’d told me stories from his time in the military and all the trouble Evan had gotten him into. I told him about my days growing up in the country and my Memaw. We’d laughed, made love, and finally, when he couldn’t stay a second longer, he’d left after giving me a heated kiss with two words. “Be careful.”

I stared at my reflection and sighed. How the fuck was I supposed to be careful with not one, but possibly two, angry criminal organizations after me? Not to mention the unfinished business with my psychotic sister. What was her game? Why had she sent me that warning? I almost reached for my phone to review the messages, but then remembered Simon had destroyed it.

“And took the damn sim card. Son of a bitch!” I slammed my palm down on the counter in annoyance at not remembering that detail while he was here. However, more recently, it had drawn the attention of Atlanta’s thriving music and entertainment business. Rappers, singers, actors, and producers all enjoyed the access to wealth and luxury shopping from the famed Lenox mall. It wasn’t uncommon to see Bugatti’s, Ferrari’s and other cars so expensive, I doubted I would ever be able to pronounce their name, drive down the street and make a C-class Mercedes look average.

The main sitting area was a sunken living room boasting white leather couches that faced a modern fireplace and a giant screen TV. When I’d stayed here the first time, the team had told me they only kept the place for appearances when they needed to meet with important or influential sources. Otherwise, they preferred to maintain their own residences and conducted their operations from different safe houses around the world. It made sense to have Atlanta as a base like this, considering its airport was one of the biggest international hubs of transportation.

Across from the living room was an open kitchen with modern cabinetry and state-of-the-art appliances. Lining the outer wall between the two spaces was a seamless line of windows that you could view nearly all the city from. During the
