“April, your father called. He sounds so worried and shocked. What did you tell him?” She came walking from the kitchen, still holding the phone in her hands.

“Nothing wrong grandma, I only told them the truth about everything.” I hated to be reminded about that. She doesn’t trust me of late. I was getting used to her giving me that unsure look. I wouldn’t blame her anyway. Who would believe me after the recent events?

My phone beeped.

“Hi, April…”

“Hi Rachael, It has been a long time. How are you?” She is my longtime friend. I knew her almost all my life. We went to the same high school, and now same college in Georgia.

“No, how are you, April?” I couldn’t help noticing the tremble in her voice.

“Why? Is something wrong?” I had to ask. I hate bad news, and I was sure that was what she had for me.

“I just got the latest issue of the school magazine. You never mentioned about you and your step brother!”

“Shit!” I hung up the phone. It was terrible. I thought I left that story in Los Angeles. It only meant one thing; I was in for a rough time in Atlanta. Where can I go now? I don’t have many relatives outside Georgia, not any that I know of, now what? I’m doomed, double crap! I could only think of one place to go to. I grabbed my purse and left the house.

My mother’s grave. There isn’t a place better I could think of to go when I get depressed. It was a simple grave, covered with concrete and flowers planted around it. I sat on it. When did it all start? When did I get myself into all this shit? Damn! Just how quickly can someone’s life be changed forever? This pregnancy, foul publicity, my dad hates me now, and God knows what else. A myriad questions clogged my mind. I sat with by head between my hands as my mind transited into my memories. I cursed the day I decided to get out of Georgia. I should have stayed around; I always did that all my life, except that horrible day. The day I chose to have a holiday in Los Angeles.
