Leaned against the arm of the sofa.

Facing the glass door to the back patio.

I do a small visual sweep as I cautiously approach where she seems paralyzed in place. Upon my arrival at her side, I lower my pistol and prepare to ask what gave her a horror movie-worthy scream when the culprit reveals itself.

“You know, if I had my phone or my laptop or any real internet capabilities right now, I wouldn’t waste time with searches regarding how to tell if you have a raccoon’s nest nearby.” Her stare shifts to mine. “I’d want to know the intelligence levels that they possess. Like did he or she wait in the dark for me to open the door with the bag of trash with a plot to scare me in hopes I would drop it so that they could scavenge through what was inside or was this a happy accident? Were they headed for the trash already and happened to catch me as I was taking something to it? Is it normal for them to stalk their prey – prey of course in this scenario being the bag of trash, not me? Raccoons don’t eat people, but I do wonder, under the right set of conditions if they could be trained to.”
