DAY 46

PEOPLE: GOD’S MOST PRIZED POSSESSION

Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters (Matthew 12:30).

Earlier in this devotional, we learned that we are worth the blood of Jesus. You know that you are built different because of Jesus, and you know you aren’t the only one Jesus died for. God doesn’t just want a family of one child; Jesus gave Himself so that He could have as many children as the stars in the sky. Culture tries to convince us that certain companies or bitcoins or items are the most valuable assets in the world. But people will always be the most valuable. When I was in high school, it was so easy to get caught up with getting good grades for myself or talking to a pretty girl or improving my football skills, but in reality, God’s best plan was right beside me in the friends and teachers and students who walked the halls with me every day. Grades and sports and girls are somewhat important, but in the ultimate picture, those things will fade away.

What is eternal is the lives of those around us. Whether we like it or not, everyone is either going to heaven or hell. We aren’t getting reincarnated as some big hippo or ice freezing indefinitely. This means that where we go after we die really matters. What is important to God should also be important to us. Because we know we are the apple of God’s eye, we should also be willing to see others as the apple of His eye. Because we know how much God values us and calls us precious, we should be willing to sacrifice ourselves for others with His love. When the Bible says, in Matthew 6, to “seek first the kingdom,” it doesn’t mean you should polish a church building all day. Instead, it means you should put others above yourself.

Your ultimate destiny will not be found by trying to advance your own goals and desires. Instead, it will happen when you use your gifts and talents to help the people around you. There is only one you, and you are the one the world needs. (They need the Jesus Christ in you—the greater one.) If you struggle to know that you are loved and precious in God’s sight, you will struggle to love others. But when you know how much you are loved, it will be easy to let that flow from you everywhere you go.

DECLARATION:

Lord, what is important to You is important to me. Help me to see people through Your eyes. Help me to keep my priorities in line. I want to seek Your kingdom first. I will put others ahead of me. I will work for others before working for me. My dreams and pursuits will have the good of others in mind. Jesus, I love You.
