CHAPTER 8

CALEB

Sarah, my sister-in-law, places a cup of coffee in front of me and staring at me, takes a sip from her own cup. “You going to talk about it?”

My phone buzzes at the side of me. It’s Jamie again! He and Bennie have been calling all morning. I flip my phone over, ignoring it again. Looking up, Sarah is still staring at me waiting for my answer. “Where do you want me to start?” I say, heavily.

“How about you start by telling me who she is?”

I hold my head in my hands for a moment, taking a deep breath before I begin.

“Last night, I found out Delia was never pregnant! There was never a baby… but that’s not the worst of it, she made the whole thing up to get back at Kally for something stupid that happened years before. I was just a pawn in her sick and twisted game.”

She almost spits the mouthful of coffee all over the table.

“What do you mean no baby? Wait… start at the beginning, how did you find this out?”

“Ok, do you remember Kally Richmond?” I ask.

She nods, smiling. “How could anyone forget her? She was stunning. Followed Delia round like her life depended on it. I never understood why though.”

“Well a couple of weeks ago, she came in for a tattoo. God you think she was stunning back then, you should see her now! She knocked me on my ass when I saw her. She stirred something up deep inside me; something I thought I’d lost.” I pause for a moment thinking about how Kally makes me feel.

“And?” Sarah nudges my arm smiling.

“And, turns out, she is living here in Blackpool. She runs her uncle’s club so me and the guys went over a couple weeks ago. One thing led to another, and we ended up kissing. I don’t think I have ever had anyone kiss me in the way she did. It was like she had waited a life time to do it, turns out she had.”

I stand, walking over to the kitchen sink and drop my cup in the water, turning back round to face her I say, “I fucked up big time! We shared this really incredible moment and then I freaked out when her son cried out from his room.”

“She has a son?” Sarah exclaims. “What did you do Caleb?” She groans, knowing that I’ve most likely acted like an idiot.

“I freaked out and ran outside. When she come after me, she told me she loved me. And I just clammed up like an idiot. Her friend Hannah explained the truth to me; she told me how Kally had always loved me, and that Delia had known how Kally felt.” I run my hand over my face. “How could I be so stupid Sarah? I went to see Delia, and she admitted everything.” Sarah wraps her arms wrapped around me. She’s been the very best friend I could hope for.

“She did it because she knew it was the only thing you ever wanted.
