A creep. I’d decided within ten seconds of Jasper opening his mouth, that the man with the fine arse was exactly that. Underneath the smarmy smile he summoned occasionally and the flinty eyes that tracked me wherever I went, there was something more to him, something I wasn’t quite grasping hold of. His smile didn’t quite reach his eyes, his conversation bordering on the edge of terse, his attempts at flirting downright cringeworthy. Alas, he had a face I could gaze at for hours if he’d just keep his mouth shut. It certainly didn’t hurt my brain when he got back down on the floor with his measuring stick.

I’d spent half the morning with the designer who’d flounced off at about noon, and I had to sigh because my dramatic tendencies had nothing on him. He’d left three of his employees in my stripped living room, which seemed a little overkill to me, but what did I know?

The smell of acidic stripper and floor preparations was giving me a headache, enough of the ogling. Leaving them to it, I headed to the top of the house. There were four bedrooms upstairs, two occupied, the other two simply furnished guest rooms that Yannick’s men had all stayed in at one time or another. No one had slept in those rooms since Tayte had moved his arse in. He preferred to send everyone home to their own beds, unlike Yannick who’d encouraged people to stay. I really didn’t miss his way of doing things in that respect.

Now the house was less chaotic and often quiet, I found I craved peace, and I’d begun looking around the house with fresh eyes. Life had definitely slowed down, had changed. It should have been boring, except it wasn’t, and I was in no hurry to return to the way things had once been. Only time would tell if that was a good thing or not.

With the iPad tucked under my arm, I slipped into my bedroom and kicked off my shoes. Once comfortable on the bed, I dove into the topic of the afternoon. Clubs. Tayte had whetted my appetite and given me a lot to think about.

I’d had very little to do with the four we owned. They were nothing more than cash convertors that got a lick of paint and new flooring in the winter months, fitted out with cheap fixtures and even cheaper booze, and they were not a patch on the beauty of Caulder’s. However, it was silly to ignore the potential Tayte had pointed out, and I a little research was required before making any decisions. I expected Tayte wouldn’t care which way I leaned as long as we came to a conclusion on what to do with them. To renovate and sell was tempting, but the chance to get my teeth stuck into something else was more appealing, and the small flutter in my belly knew the choice before I’d even started dreaming up ideas.

Wasting hours, I poured over
