CHAPTER 16
âWow,â I gasp as we pull up on what is nothing more than a gravel area at the top of a cliff overlooking the ocean. Getting out of the car, the wind whips my hair around my face, and I can smell sea salt in the air and hear the distant noise of waves crashing against the rocks below.
âOver here,â Cam calls out, leading the way toward the cliff face. As I approach, I notice steps carved into the side of the rock, and as we start to descend, a small strip of the beach comes into view, stretching out below us. Itâs well hidden, so no one passing by on the road would think to stop and come down here, although the outlook is absolutely spectacular.
âWho the hell owns their own private cove?â I gape when my feet hit the sand. I look around, completely mesmerized by the shimmering sand and glistening ocean.
âWe do.â Mason winks as he moves past me, carrying a large cooler filled with drinks and food. I catch Beckâs eye, and I can tell heâs just as amazed by all of this as I am.
We both let out a disbelieving chuckle and follow the others over to where Cam is laying towels on the sand.
âWhat do you think youâre doing?â Cam asks, reaching out to grab a hold of me just as I go to sit on the towels. âWeâre going swimming.â
I laugh. âCam, I canât swim.â
His eyes widen to saucers. âYou, what?! Well, we will have to correct that as soon as weâre back at school. For today, I guess youâre just going to have to stay real close to me.â He winks, and I shake my head, trying to wriggle out of his grip.
âBaby, you have five seconds to get your shorts and shoes off, or Iâm carrying you in fully clothed.â
âYou wouldnât,â I gasp.
The asshole just quirks an eyebrow. âFive.â
I scowl at him, refusing to believe him.
âFour.â
I still donât move.
âThree.â
He steps toward me, and I can see the intent in his eyes. Heâs one hundred percent serious.
âTwo.â
His arms wrap around my waist, and I shift slightly out of his reach, frantically kicking off my shoes and unbuttoning my shorts. Theyâre not even halfway down my legs when he wraps his toned arms around me and lifts me off the ground.
I scream, kicking my shorts the rest of the way off as he runs with me to the water, the other assholes laughing as they watch us. I give all of them the middle finger and scream again as the first drops of cold water hit my legs.
âCam! Itâs freezing!â I yell as he runs deeper into the water, quickly submerging us. I move in his hold to wind my arms tightly around his neck, my legs doing the same around his waist. Iâm clinging to him like a goddamn spider monkey, and he seems to find it fucking hilarious, based on the deep boom of laughter he emits.
âBaby, Iâve got you, but if you strangle me, someone will have to come in here and rescue us both.
