filled with MTV-style music and huge TV screens with replays from important games, the huge poster of Michael Jordan flying through the air, and a Michael Jordan shrine. The store's architecture, layout, people, displays, and overall look and feel all say Nike.

In 1996, the NikeTown store surpassed the Art Institute as Chicago's number one tourist attraction, with more than 1 million visitors and $25 million in annual sales. Within six years after the Chicago NikeTown opened, a dozen more NikeTowns appeared, including one in New York City. These stores all provided customers with a Nike experience unfettered by competitors or by the conflicting needs of other retailers.
