EPILOGUE

Two Weeks Later

Jack was ready to start climbing the walls. They'd been home for almost two weeks. He wasn't due to follow up with the doctors for another CT scan until Monday, and he'd had just about enough of it. Between Kayla and Aaron, they hadn't let him do anything. Anything. Which was ridiculous. He felt fine. Tired maybe, and a little dizzy, but fine.

He was lying in bed with a book because his keepers had put a prohibition on screens. They hadn't even left him his regular phone, instead giving him a burner flip phone that didn't even use data. He scowled at it. No amount of threatening or pleading had swayed Kayla, who insisted he needed rest and minimal visual stimulation.

Jack sighed and set the book aside. He was so over it. Picking up his phone, he called Kayla.

She answered on the first ring, "Hello, sir."

That greeting gave him a little thrill each time she said it. "I'm bored. When are you stopping by?"

He heard her giggle. "Actually the doctor's office just called, and they had a cancellation for this afternoon. I was getting ready to come get you when you called."

Jack perked up. "Really?"

This was great news. If he could get checked out and cleared today, then maybe no one would throw a fit if he went to Ty's going away party tomorrow night.

"Yes really," Kayla snorted. "I called them this morning to see if they had any openings since you haven't had a headache in days."

"Good girl," he said.

"Hm," was all the answer he got.

"I guess I better get ready then."

"I guess you better. See you soon, sir."

Jack left the doctor's office two hours later, smiling.

Kayla was sitting in the reception area on her laptop, waiting for him. She looked up as he came nearer. "Good news, sir?"

"Most definitely," he said, leaning in and kissing her softly. "I'm cleared for working part time, 1-2 hours of screen time a day, and a return to 'mildly strenuous' exercise." He gave her a grin.

She blushed and wasn't that wonderful. He made jaded club manager Kayla Nardone blush.

"And what exactly does mildly strenuous entail, sir?" she asked cheekily.

"Nothing as exciting as I want, but enough for now," he said, pulling her to her feet and kissing her harder.

"I guess that's enough for now," she sighed.

He felt a twinge of anxiety. They'd only agreed to be together and date two weeks ago, and in all that time he hadn't been able to give her most of what she needed. He knew it wouldn't last forever, but it wasn't how he would have chosen to start things off.

His thoughts must have shown on his face because her hand came up to cup his cheek. "I know, sir," she whispered. "It's fine. We're fine. I promise."

"I know. I love you, Principessa," he murmured, giving her one last kiss then taking her hand to lead her from the office.

"I love you too, sir," she said.

Back in the car he asked, "Does this mean you'll let me go to Ty's going away party tomorrow night?"

He watched her bite her lip.
