Chapter Twelve

I woke in the early hours of the morning, tightly pressed between the two loves of my life. My relationship with them had progressed so quickly. But you know what? I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I crawled over Vlad and slipped out of bed. Surprisingly, I wasn’t sore. Maybe being a dragon shifter helped me to heal more quickly, like a werewolf. Not that they’d hurt me or anything, but I kind of expected to be sore.

I pulled on my favorite pajamas, the black ones with little purple skulls all over them, and a grim reaper t-shirt that hung off one shoulder.

As much as I wanted to keep sleeping there between them, I couldn’t rest. It wasn’t because of stress or worrying about Siegfried. I was freaking starving.

I started the coffee pot and started going through the fridge for something to cook. I was flipping pancakes and cooking turkey bacon when Vlad walked into the kitchen.

He was wearing dark purple pajama pants and a smile.

“Worked up an appetite?” he teased.

“Didn’t you?”

I flipped another pancake and he pulled me close. “How do you feel?”

“Great actually. I expected to be sore.”

He laughed. “That’s good, but I meant emotionally. Are you still certain about this arrangement?”

“More than ever. Why? Do you have doubts?”

He kissed my forehead. “Not at all. Of course, we couldn’t back out after that spell.”

I laughed. “Then why ask?”

I turned back to the turkey bacon, but his arms stayed around my waist.

“I want to make you happy,” he said softly. “Always.”

I turned back to him and placed a kiss against his chest. “I’m happy right now.”

“I’ll be happy when I get some of that bacon,” Max said from the door.

There was a hot, naked werewolf with tousled “I had sex all night” hair standing in my kitchen, and all he wanted was bacon. I couldn’t help but laugh.

We spent the next two weeks going over all the books Vlad brought back from his apartment in Atlanta. It was fortunate that none of us had a regular job. Thanks to my grandmother’s investments, I no longer had to work. Max was retired after selling the construction business he’d inherited. Lori worked odd hours, doing the books for her parents’ farming business. Mags made money from casting spells for people. And this was Vlad’s job. Well, sort of. He hunted rogue werewolves for a living. It was true that he’d come here looking for a werewolf, but this was personal.

I’d been able to transform twice more on purpose, but I wasn’t sure I had a handle on it yet.

I hadn’t had any more dreams about Siegfried, and there was no trace of the troll Chris or his sister Melanie. Vlad and I had gone back to the tea shop, but it was closed, and I had no idea where Chris lived. He wasn’t listed in the phone book and an internet search turned up nothing. Lori suggested scrying for him, but Maggie said we’d need something of his for that to work.
