As soon as we made it back to the house, I kicked my sandals off and hopped in bed with a book. Today was one of the best I’ve had in years. Zion was downstairs letting Mildred know what we wanted to eat tonight. The first book I opened was by Zane, an author Kierra and I had no business reading as teenagers.

Moments later, Zion entered his room with his phone pressed to his ear. His bushy, full brows were furrowed as he listened to whatever the person on the other end of the phone was saying.

“Man fuck that!” barked Zion, bringing me to jump and lose my page in the book. “Who the fuck does Luis think he is? Aight, I’ll be there in a few.”

Was Zion leaving me?

“Check this out,” he said, digging in his top dresser and pulling out a wrinkled t-shirt. “I gotta step out but I’ll be back in a couple of hours. Don’t fall asleep without me.”

Yeah, he was definitely leaving me.

“I like holding your pretty ass while we sleep.” Zion winked at me and then stepped inside of his closet.

I heard a few buttons being pressed and then a louder beep and it sounded as if a door opened. Not having the balls to go see what he was doing, I tried to listen as hard as I could. I heard a door shut and click as if it locked back up and when Zin reappeared with two big ass guns in his hands, my eyes grew as wide as saucers.

Zion grabbed some keys off the dresser. I haven’t seen him drive so I didn’t know if he had cars here. I thought Gray drove him everywhere. I guess there was a lot I still didn’t know.

He surprised me by trekking over to the bed, leaning over and dropping a kiss on my forehead.

“I’ll be back,” he joked, trying to sound like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

“Zion,” I called out as he took off towards the door. He spun around slightly. “Be safe.”

He winked again and smiled real big showing his diamond grill. “Always, bae.”
