Forgiveness is one of the most difficult yet liberating acts we can practice. This Forgiveness Prayer is a very precious and powerful tool. I have used it many, many times during my lomi massage sessions with amazing results. It is a perfect way to prepare for a massage, as well as a way to get beyond whatever ‘stuff’ may be in the moment, blocking the way to higher understanding and deeper peace. It is more powerful than its simplicity reveals, and when spoken/sent out with sincerity, I have found it to be like a ‘magic carpet’ that can take both practitioner and client into new and receptive places … far above and beyond our current dramas, traumas, worries and challenges.

We must remember, true forgiveness is not about lowering yourself before anyone else, or letting anyone who has hurt you / your loved ones / humanity ‘off the hook’. It is potentially much more sacred. Forgiveness doesn’t mean that you deny the other person’s responsibility for hurting you, and it doesn’t minimize or justify the wrong. As Oprah wrote on her blog, “Forgiveness doesn’t mean you condone the behavior or, in any way, make a wrong right. It just means you give yourself permission to release from your past—and step forward with the mud of resentment cleared from your wings. Fly!”

As it turns out, it is actually a tool for personal liberation, because it is about letting go. But in order to truly let go, we must cultivate a certain sense of trust in the Universe and its Mysterious ways. “The great Mystery” Uncle Robert Keliihoomalu used to call it, with a smile on his aging, gorgeous Hawaiian face. He, unlike me, was truly comfortable with the great Mystery, where I (truth be told) would so prefer to analyze and understand it! But not so with Robert, as he could look up into the stars and totally surrender as he held his pearl prayer beads in his huge hands. During my years with him, he was predictably patient and grounded, and held an amazing amount of inner peace and love in his being.
