Sidebar
Blog sidebars often get cluttered with a miscellaneous assortment of gee-whiz blogging gadgets. Your sidebar’s job is to get visitors to join your community and visit other pages on your blog. For sidebars, less is definitely more. Start your sidebar with the following:
E-mail opt-in form for blog post updates. Give your readers an option to subscribe to your blog and receive updates via e-mail when a new post is published.
Introduce the bloggers. A blog is an ideal format to put a face to your company. The sidebar is an ideal place to introduce who is doing the blogging—and stick a friendly photo up there too. If you are using multiple bloggers, you might include a separate page of bloggers and their bios.
Popular posts. Provide links to the most popular posts on your blog. If your blog is new, offer links to 5 to 10 evergreen posts. Check your blog plugin for an option to display a thumbnail image with each post title.
Social icons. Use your blog to grow your audiences on complementary social platforms. Social sites like Twitter and Facebook offer icons that add readers to your audience with one click. Quickly add new followers by adding a sentence that tells your audience the benefits of connecting with you on other platforms.
Helpful services. Your blog is valuable real estate! It’s likely that high-potential prospects will be visiting your blog every day. Why not introduce them to some of your useful services and products in a gentle way? There are several free WordPress plugins you can use to generate helpful ads as a call to action.
That’s it for the sidebar. Limiting your sidebar items increases engagement with each item.
