When he walks in his flat, Alex's not waiting on him, which isn't a problem exactly, it's a bit weird, because Alex was so insistent that Chris not leave in the first place. As it is, the flat is completely quiet and dark, the only light coming from down the hall where Chris's bedroom is.“Alex,” Chris calls, shrugging out of his coat. He hangs the coat on the rack, toeing off his shoes. When there's no answer he calls again, “Alex?”

When he still doesn't get an answer, panic starts building slowly in his gut.

What if they found out this is where Alex was staying? What if they've killed him and Chris walks in on Alex's limp body bleeding out all over his bedroom floor? What if they've taken him?

Or you're just being paranoid, Chris reminds himself.

He starts down the hall, slowly, resiting the urge to go back to his coat to get his gun because if there isn't a problem and Alex's perfectly fine, how's Chris explain that?

When he reaches the door, he takes a deep breath. It's cracked open, so he slowly pushes it the rest of the way, letting out a long breath at what he sees.

Alex is here. He's sitting on the bed, his back to Chris, and head bent over.

“Jesus, Haz,” Chris lets out. “Didn't you hear me calling?” Chris starts walking to the other side of the bed. “I was starting to think something had happened. You can't-.”

He cuts himself off, pausing at the foot of the bed. Alex hasn't looked up, still bent over looking at whatever is in his hands. He hasn't even acknowledged Chris being in the room

Something is wrong.

“Alex,” he drawls out, “what is it?”

“Who are you?” Alex asks meekly, still not looking up.

“What?”

Ever so slowly Alex stands, dropping whatever was in his hands to the floor. Chris tracks the motion with his eyes and – shit.

The box. Alex found the box. Chris's box where he keeps all his I.D.'s and passports and whatever else he might need.

He's not sure how long he's standing there, frozen, eyes locked on that damn black box. He'd forgotten about it completely, had it hidden under his bed and now Alex's found it. Alex's found it and everything is ruined.

“Shit,” he breathes out.

“Who the hell are you?” Alex questions, getting Chris's attention. His eyes are wide, filled with panic and betrayal, and he looks like he's about to run the second Chris says something that's not okay. “What is all this?”

“Alex,” he says, taking a slow step forward with his hand out. Alex takes an abrupt step back, kicking the box. Chris stops, drops his hands. He cant scare Alex anymore than he already is. “There's an explanation.”

Is there?

There isn't.

Alex's forehead wrinkles as he shoots Chris an incredulous look. “How?” His voice is full of panic, making Chris's blood run cold. “There's at least a dozen passports with different names on them, all with pictures of you. I don't understand.”
