4.3.10: Heaven take my soul, and England keep my bones!

While this passage is not a direct reference to Scripture, it is based on the language with which wills were opened. Shakespeare's own will began: "I Comend my Soule into the handes of god my Creator . . . And my bodye to the Earth whereof yt ys made." This language of wills comes from Scripture:

Luke 23.46: "Father, into thine hands I commend my spirit."

Ps. 31.6 (31.5, Geneva): "Into thy handes I commend my spirit."

Burial Service: "We therefore commit his body to the ground, earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust."

Gen. 3.19: "Till thou returne to the earth: for out of it wast thou taken."

In The Troublesome Raigne Arthur says: "I dye I dye, heaven take my fleeting soule" (2.25). There are no parallel words in Holinshed.
