Chapter Ten

Brandon studied the wild red head pinned beneath him. Her flaming hair lay in disarray over his dark comforter, and tangled around her arms. He didn’t know what to do with her, how to teach her the seriousness of her actions. She needed to be brought down a few notches, before she did something that would really get her hurt. Outside of West Caper, beyond the protective walls, a person would sooner slit your throat for a cord of firewood, than spare your life. How Angelina survived this long on her own astounded him.

When he cut open her shirt, the same milky smooth skin he’d seen at the lake was exposed. It didn’t help that he knew exactly what her full breasts looked like when bare. Her stomach was flat, and the muscles continually tensed as she struggled futilely. The darkness and quiet engulfing them created an intimate atmosphere, ripe with emotion. Only their heavy breathing battled in alternating rhythms.

He was thoroughly pissed off. Or had been a minute ago. His wrist was mangled, in need of medical attention, and his joints sore. The stress of the day, plus missing his patrol, put him in quite a mood. Then finding that poor dead dog, and Angelina up to no good...he should be livid. Holding onto his anger was difficult with the feisty little redhead. She was so darned cute, like an angry kitten. Well, perhaps deadly than that, more a lioness.

Her eyes held such passion. She stirred a longing in him that he couldn’t deny. Leaning over her prone body, stretched out for him temptingly, he rubbed his cheek against hers. She flinched away at the roughness of his stubble, but not in a dismissive way. In fact, she could have easily turned her head and bit his nose off. He knew she was quite capable of such a feat, but she remained as steady as a coiled spring.

“You know,” he drawled. “My parents raised me right. Taught me how to treat a lady, raise a family, and care for them. Good ol’ fashioned values.” He nipped at her earlobe. “Feels liberating to let go of all those rules. With you.”

“Huh?”

“Well, Angelina, you’re no lady.” He got his desired reaction from her. Her brow lowered and eyes turned evil, as she tugged at her restraints, unleashing some of her fury. “Cut it out, you’ll rip the skin clean off your wrists wiggling around like that.”

“Get away from me!” She bucked her hips, nearly freeing herself in her burst of energy.

“I notice that about you. You can’t handle the truth. It may be easier to run and hide, but it must get lonely.”

She calmed her body, staring at him intently. “You know nothing about me. Nothing! And you never will.”

“Why so angry? Are you trying to tell me that you are a lady?”

Angelina wet her lips, her chest heaving from her tirade. “Doesn’t matter. You’ll just take what you want anyway.”

He groaned, his bravado lost. He never intended to rape the woman, just put some fear in her.
