Chapter Six

A wall of darkness met me as I regained consciousness.

“Where the fuck am I?” I wiggled in some sort of seat. I could feel myself sticking to it. Given I was wearing leather trousers, it didn’t help me figure out what the heck they’d strapped me to.

“Jax?” I heard Tate call out.

“Tate!” I replied, “what happened?”

“It’s ok, I’m going to get us out of here.”

“You’re not going anywhere until we say so.” A voice told us.

“Boss, they’re awake.” A second voice spoke.

“On my way.” A reply came back over a radio.

Moments passed before the sound of the door opening hit my ears. Booted footsteps came closer before they ripped off the blindfold they’d replaced the sack with. The light stung my eyes like a bitch.

“Ugh. What the fuck?” I grumbled.

“What is your business here?” It was Ryan’s father.

“Besides saving your son from potential death by vampire or wolf in the forest, I came here for the cure to whatever you coated the damn bullets with that your other dumbass kid shot at my baby sister,” I spat.

“Ryan?” His father looked down at him, whilst slowly taking off the camouflage hunter’s helmet, which covered his face.

Fuck, it was Mr Kennedy, the new town mayor Malachi had introduced us to. This was bad.

“It’s true. Ben and I went into the forest. We wanted to show you we could be hunters too.” Ryan looked back and forth between his father and me.

“Anyone want to take this shit off me?” Tate called as he wiggled bound to the chair, a blindfold over his eyes.

“Remove it.” Mr Kennedy instructed one of his roid-headed hench men.

“All I want is the cure for my sister. Then we’ll be on our way.” I flicked my head backwards, trying to move my hair from my face.

“You’ll leave when I say you leave. That’s if I let you,” Mr Kennedy barked back.

“So, you knew what we were when Malachi introduced us? He’s going to be so pissed when he finds out you have us tied to chairs in this sick little laboratory of yours.” I pursed my lips and blew a stray strand of hair from my face.

“Of course, but I didn’t think he’d be so stupid to allow you to go beyond the shadows of the forest alone.” He brushed his finger along my jawline before cupping my face in his hands.

I pushed my head backwards in resistance.

“We can go anywhere we want in the forest and Ravensweir,” I snapped back.

Tate looked around the room before landing his eyes on me. “Get the fuck off her.”

He shot me a wild look; a look I knew all too well. I knew exactly what he was thinking, but I doubted I’d have the energy. I was groggy from whatever shit they’d injected us with. I shook my head slowly from side to side, letting him know there was no way I could fight these guys in the mess I was in. Damn, my legs wouldn’t even follow instructions to push my ass up from the seat.
