Chapter Fourteen
I WAS AWAKENED BY A sweet, soft touch. The light through the closed curtains gently stroked my face and hair. I didnât know what the time was, but I hadnât heard my alarm, so it couldnât have been too late. I raised myself up a little on the edge of the bed and leaned over to the mirror on the bedside. Apparently, a restful sleep had been more than enough. Although I could see small changes, I couldnât help feeling disappointed. I know I was irrational, but I really liked the way I looked the night before. I looked carefully at my face in the mirror; it was as if I was shining from the inside out.
Leaving the mirror to one side, I realized that I hadnât had the chance to look around. After all, this was my first time in a boyâs house.
I opened the curtain to get more light, to find myself sitting on the threshold of a balcony, quite a large one I might say. The gruesome weather discouraged me from opening the door, but even so, I could see the coffee table and the two chairs. I turned my gaze back to the bedroom. It was nicely arranged, simply furnished. A double bed with nightstands on both sides, an empty bookshelf, and a desk were the only things in the room. The plush carpet gave me such a nice feeling beneath my bare soles that it was a pleasure to sink my toes in it. The turquoise shades in which the room was decorated made it a very peaceful and relaxing place. But something was missing. It looked like a hotel room. Empty. Unused. No one seemed to have used it before.
I wandered with my eyes a bit more around the room. The messy bed made an unpleasant contrast with the rest of the room to such an extent that I couldnât help but fix it. It was time to look for a watch. Seemingly, none of my things were in the room, so they were probably still in the living room.
I looked at the three doors in front of me. I knew for sure that one of them led to the living room, but what about the other two? Of course, curiosity overcame me. I was not nosy, I was just curious, but sometimes there was no differentiation between the two.
I opened the first door and found an empty dressing room. Not even a coat or a hat. So there really was no one living there. I closed the door and went to the next one. Beyond this, there was a bathroom decorated in the same shades of turquoise as the bedroom. A shower cabin and a hot tub were there, unused by anyone. What an empty feeling. This was starting to feel like a furniture or interior design exhibition, not a home.
I closed this door and opened the third one. I finally came out in the incredibly spacious living room. Unlike the bedroom, this place seemed intimidating.
