I opened my eyes slowly when I felt the cold, night wind envelope me. I blinked, trying to see in the darkness that fell around me when I realized that I wasn’t alone. There was a strong, warm body wrapped in mine and I could feel his breath tickling my skin beside my ear.

Suddenly, awareness awoke my brain and I realized that I was in Tyler’s arms, on the terrace of his penthouse when I should have been performing at Bluebells.

I freed myself from his strong arms and he moved lazily.

“Shit, shit, shit,” I muttered, as I got up, touching my hair to see if everything was in place. God, how could I let my guard down like that?

“Where are you going?” he asked with a sleepy voice as I tied my sneakers.

“What time is it?” I asked, stressed. “I can’t believe I fell asleep! My God, I should have been rehearsing all afternoon!”

“It’s a little after seven thirty. It’s still early. Calm down, Blanche.” He held my shoulders, forcing me to stop for a second. “It’s okay,” he reassured me.

I shook my head, completely confused by my behavior. I wasn’t the type of girl to get carried away in the moment. I was always focused, very. And, since my mom had died, I’d had to be even more focused than normal on my objectives or else life would have swallowed me up.

“No, it’s not okay. I should have been rehearsing all afternoon, not sitting here, chatting the whole time!” Tyler looked at me, his expression showing that he was upset. I let out a long, deep sigh. On the one hand, I felt guilty for letting my guard down to him, the kind of man who was so wrong for me, but, on the other, I didn’t want to......hurt him. As if a player has a heart. “I’m sorry Ty. I really have to go. Today is....”

“Your solo performance, I know,” he said, still staring at me. The intensity of his stare had the power to see every secret there was hidden inside me.

There we stayed looking at each other for a few moments in total silence, until he looked away.

“Go, ma bonne étoile” he said, pronouncing those words in French that I had no idea of their meaning. “I’ll see you later.”

“Aren’t you going to tell me what that means?” I asked as I turned and grabbed my bag that was on a lounger.

I turned to him and saw the sexy smile spread across his face.

“Are you going to tell me your real name?” he asked, licking lips and making me want to do the same to his.

“Blanche,” I said quietly. Emily didn’t exist any longer...or rather, the little bit that was left of Emily was hidden deep inside my heart where it couldn’t be found. Because she had been a sweet and innocent girl who believed in the goodness of people. An easy target who had got hurt, something that Blanche was not.

“We’ll see each other later, Blanche.
