"At the top of the lighthouse?" William looked at her like she had just said she wanted to build a house on the moon.

"I know it sounds crazy, but I love being up there."

He sat down on the edge of the dock beside her. Janine often came down to see him at the end of a long day. It was a beautiful place to watch the sunset.

"Janine, I know you love the lighthouse, and I think that's great. But how in the world are we supposed to have all of these people at the top? It's not that big, and it's curved. At best, we could probably get ourselves and the minister up there."

"Emma said that the doors open to the gallery."

"The gallery?"

"The glass enclosed room. We should be able to get some chairs in there and we could stand just in the doorway with the minister. I think it would work. Plus, the platform is pretty large for a lighthouse. I thought we could cut our guest list down to just our closest friends and family, and then maybe have a bigger reception somewhere else.”

He sat for a moment and stared off over the water. She wondered if he felt like she was hijacking their wedding and not allowing him to have any input. The last thing she wanted was for William to feel like he didn’t get the wedding he wanted, too.

“William, say something. If you don’t like the idea…”

He smiled. “You’re unique, Janine.”

“What?”

“When we first met, you got under my skin because you were so different, and I couldn’t figure out how to interact with you. I mean, here’s this beautiful woman who contorts her body in these weird ways, burns incense and meditates. I was the guy who worked all the time and had lost who he was. Now, I own this fishing charter business, and I love my life.”

“Okay, but what about the lighthouse?”

He looked at her. “Don’t you see?”

“See what?”

“I know every day being married to you is going to be interesting, and I would expect nothing less of our wedding.”

“So we can get married at the top of the lighthouse?”

He smiled. “If you’re sure we can fit our crew of people, and that’s what you want, then that’s what I want.”

Janine hugged him tightly. “Really?”

“Really,” he said, laughing.

“But, William, I don’t want you to think I’m railroading you into this…”

He put his index finger against her lips. “If I ever feel like you’re railroading me, I’ll speak up. Our wedding day is going to be the best day of my life, but the location doesn’t matter to me. You can wear a mermaid costume, have folk singers playing banjos and hire a belly dancer to perform the ceremony. I don’t care as long as I get to slip that wedding ring on your finger and call you my wife.”
