One mistake teens make when it comes to spending is confusing wants and needs. For example, you need clothing but you don’t need a $50 pair of jeans. The $50 jeans are a want. Likewise, you need water to survive. But you don’t need a $2.50 bottle of water when the drinking fountain is just down the hall. Remember, a need is something you cannot do without. A want, on the other hand, is something you would like to have but is not necessary. If you confuse the two, budgeting will be a challenge.
