It’s two weeks later and the morning of Mom’s wedding. I’m in the kitchen with my head in the fridge checking the food against the order for the tenth time.

My stomach flutters nervously, and I’m not sure if it’s because of the task ahead or the thought of spending the day with Luke.

The last two weeks have been a blur. It’s taken all of my spare time to get everything organized for the wedding, the food, the wait staff, and making sure Mom is happy with the menu.

I’ve spent a lot of time with Luke, but we haven’t had the chance to be alone again.

The wedding is taking place in Mom’s garden, so I’m back in her kitchen. I’ve got everything laid out and ready. I’m just waiting for the staff to arrive.

I hear the door behind me, and I spin around to find Luke slinging his bag down behind the kitchen counter.

He looks good in his chef pants and white t-shirt pulled tight over his muscular chest. He’s holding a single red rose. “For you.”

My mouth drops open in surprise.

"I know how nervous you are about today. It’s going to be great."

I take the rose, and our fingertips brush. A tingle of electricity jumps between us. "Thank you."

The nervousness about today subsides a little knowing that Luke will be by my side.

“The delivery arrived last night; we should have everything we need.”

“Guess we better get to work then."

He pulls out his speaker and phone and selects a playlist. Taylor Swift fills the kitchen, and he sings along as he preps his supplies.

I line up glasses and bottles so they’re ready for the guests. Half an hour later the two waitresses I’ve hired arrive, and soon after the guests.

It’s a busy few hours making sure the drinks and food get out to everyone. My time is spent checking that the guests have everything they need and making sure the timing of the food is as it should be.

Stacey pops in to say hello and I know I should be out mingling with the guests, but it’s more fun hanging out in the kitchen.

Even once things are up and running and I’m not really needed, I find myself in the kitchen talking to Luke and singing along to his playlist.

Beyonce is playing and he’s wiggling his butt furiously, making me laugh. I join in, and our hips collide. I bounce off him, and he catches me just before I hit the counter. His hands are around my waist and it feels good, like I want to stay there forever.

“Nice save.” I laugh.

He doesn’t move, and when I look at him, his eyes are intense. Suddenly he takes a step towards me, closing the distance between us. His hand strokes my cheek. “You’re beautiful, Julia.”

“Thank you,” I manage to whisper, thinking that Mom would be so pleased with me for remembering my manners. Then his lips are pressed against mine, and all thoughts fly out of my head.

There’s nothing in the world but the two of us and the taste of his strawberry sweet lips.
