As I sing the last of the lyrics, my eyes roam away from Candice, who’s dancing and clapping in the first row, and they come to a stop, suddenly riveted to the large man standing at her side.

My voice falters while I perform the last line of the refrain.

“To the… late night… d…double feature… picture show…”

I can’t believe this.

It’s…

He is…

My eyes go round as I stare at him in shock.

I’d recognize his muscular tall frame and handsome visage anywhere: the piercing blue eyes, the dark blonde hair, the short beard…

It’s really him.

Can this be really happening?

All of a sudden, I’m hit by a sense of déjà vu and I immediately realize why, as I study him.

The stage, the funny-looking costume on me, the dark suit with the first few buttons on his white shirt unbuttoned, the hunger in his eyes as he looks up at me with the same recognition I’m feeling…

This is what I dreamed that first night, so many years ago.

Around me, the audience chants for an encore as my heart pounds away in my chest and I smile down at him.

I just know the perfect song…

I tear my eyes from him and select the piece.

As soon as the opening drum phrase of ‘Be My Baby’ fills the buzzing silence I see his eyes grow big and he smiles back, moving even closer to the stage.

This is it… the night… our night…

I start to sing to him through my smile, asking him to be mine, the audience around us disappearing.

Just like in my dream, he climbs onto the stage before someone can stop him and he snatches me up into his arms mid-song; the mike whistling and falling on the ground with a thud.

I hear the crowd explode in catcalls as he pulls me flush to his chest and gives me my first kiss ever.

We pull apart when we can no longer breathe.

“It’s you,” he tells me, just as the same words come out of my mouth.

I’m smiling so big, my face hurts.

I can’t believe this!

“How did you know?” I ask.

“Your voice… and then the song. You?”

“I dreamed this exact moment once…”

I throw my arms around his neck as he starts to climb down from the stage, still keeping me to him protectively.

We kiss again as he walks us blindly through the crowd and into a darkened corner.

I look back over my shoulder and see Candice on the stage, she’s with a man I don’t know. They’re finishing my song, it seems.

I feel something hard press into my belly while our tongues keep on clashing against each other in my mouth and then in his, and I feel myself blush as my eyes flutter closed.

My mini-skirt runs higher on my thighs as I spread them to cradle his hips, my entire body shaking in happiness and excitement.

He is even bigger than I thought up close and personal like this. His back is so wide, he shields me completely from view and makes me feel utterly protected and in a world of our own.
