Say Cheese

At four a.m., August and Nakobi were flighted in his private jet from Dallas, Texas to Los Angeles, California, for a photoshoot August had with The Voice Magazine. Nakobi had been utterly mesmerized by the pure opulence of the jet. However, nothing prepared her for their stay at the Four Seasons. From the moment she’d opened her eyes until right then, Nakobi had been in complete awe. August’s life was a movie, one she was happy to play a role in for the time being.

Nakobi stood on the sidelines, watching as August effortlessly posed for the camera. He was funny, edgy, and expressive, giving them something different every snap. He was adaptable and open-minded, which showed when it was time for him to change his wardrobe. Without complaint, August had worn beach attire with no shirt, and next was a stylish hoodie and jeans.

However, right then, he wore a black three-piece suit with shiny leather shoes and diamond cufflinks. After the first few shots, his red, black, and white tie had been removed, and the two top buttons opened, exposing his dark chocolate chest. A small gold chain hung around his neck, and a diamond pinky ring sat on his pinky finger. August was the shit. He knew it, and everyone that worked to make his shoot a success knew it too.

Nothing about him seemed nervous, and Nakobi could definitely not relate. It was as though he had been bred for the spotlight. Everyone conformed to him, not the other way around. He was the kind of man that would easily stand out if he were ever in a room with a thousand men. August commanded the attention of others and never lost it unless they’d been dismissed. People hung onto his every word, worshiped the ground he walked on and loved everything about him. Though Nakobi would never admit it, she was compelled by him the same as they were.

“Hello, Ms. Hendrix. Here is a copy of the unprinted article as requested,” Holly, a representative at The Voice, greeted as she handed Nakobi a sheet of paper. “Please have Mr. Drake look over it. We’re waiting on his approval. The sooner we get it, the better.”

Nakobi nodded, issuing the woman a polite smile. “Mr. Drake has given me permission to approve or deny the article. If you wait right here, I can give you my answer now.”
