Chapter Seven

Despite the pain, I forced myself to walk around and act normal so I could leave sooner. I missed him. Harley. It was great being back here with my club, but the Irishman put some invisible chains on my balls. I rested for hours, spending the whole day healing but pacing. I wasn’t good at sitting around and relaxing. I liked tinkering with technology, writing programs, playing dominant. This sit and do nothing was grating on my nerves. The entire day passed and even as night wore on, I was bored. My face felt better thanks to some shots that decreased the swelling and sped up my natural healing abilities. Wasn’t the future grand? In the olden days, it’d take days, weeks, if not months, to heal. Now, days later and I was back to normal. Almost. When the sun crested on another day down here, I went to find Outlaw. First because I missed Harley and second, I was the one who should be monitoring the radio. I could rewrite the program to get a better depth of the situation among other things. When I found him, he was outside staring at the wall still standing strong. “Outlaw.”

“Brother. How you feeling?”

“Healed.” I pushed my hair behind my ears, my bracelets ringing as the day started. I could see men on the wall, vigilant and others returning to the cave for a few hours rest. “I feel...useless here.”

Outlaw nodded. “I thought you’d say that.”

“I can return to Harley’s?” I hope that’s what he meant.

“Yup. We have a hover car hidden a few blocks away. Take the tunnel to it and drive to Harley’s. Keep off main roads and out of Peacekeeper view.”

I nodded eagerly.

“We’re going to need you, brother. Our next plan is shaping up.”

“You always have me, Outlaw.”

He squeezed my shoulder. The man looked worn out as he leaned against the rock wall and started out on the front lines of this bloody war. I knew he was thinking about Liam. His lover and our vice president of the club who was doing a stretch in Earth prison for fifteen years. I missed the charismatic VP. That loss during this battle must be hard to weather alone. I turned away, wanting more than ever to get to Harley.

The walk was only an hour in a dark tunnel. My face still had this stiffness to it from healing so fast. I smiled, frowned, stretched muscles as I went. The passageway opened up into a dark garage. Red sand had blown in and was pushing up against the walls. It must be on the edge of the city. The hover car was parked by itself, looking kind of conspicuous. The outside was a dull blue and I hopped in. I’d rather have my bike between my legs, but I guess I couldn’t be picky. It started up without a hitch, probably thanks to Grim. Then I was driving out of the alcove and onto the street. The sun was high in the sky, making the city sparkle and shine.
