The standard dress of a soldier in training with the reserve battalion.

When the cloth shoulder title was introduced from mid-1916 they were made in pairs.

In the 5th Division only the helmet showed the battalion. The 1st Battalion wore red over white over green.

The Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding Regiment)

Although the potential recruiting area was large and populous the regiment consisted of only three battalions in August 1914. The Regimental Depot was Wellesley Barracks, Halifax, and home to the reserve battalion; the 1st Battalion was in India and the 2nd at Dublin. All ranks wore a common cap badge, officers wore collar badges and other ranks wore a curved shoulder title; initially W.RIDING, replaced in 1915 by DUKE/ OF/WELLINGTON’S.
