“Head for Holmes,” Emma said, emphasizing the pun Jimmy had said without realizing it, and they both ended up in a fit of giggles. After they regained their composure, the MacDougalls scampered over to 221B Baker Street, and hammered on the door.

With a sharp click, the door was opened by kindly old Mrs. Hudson. She was Mr. Holmes’s landlord. She owned 221B Baker Street and rented rooms to Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. “Well, well, well, if it isn’t Jimmy and Emma MacDougall, and with Toby, the canine sleuth. I can tell from the looks on your faces that you’re here to see Mr. Holmes.”

“Yes, Mrs. Hudson,” both twins said with elation.

“We have important information about the Violet Vampire!” Jimmy exploded. He couldn’t hold back his excitement.

Mrs. Hudson gave a smile like a sunrise. She loved the twins and was good friends with their parents, especially Mrs. MacDougall. “Mr. Holmes will be delighted to see you children. He hasn’t had much luck on his own case.”

Emma, Jimmy, and Toby ascended the stairs to Sherlock Holmes’s room. They had to use their strong willpower to keep from bounding up the steps. Emma and Jimmy knew Sherlock was deep in thought because they could hear him playing his violin, beautifully performing Beethoven for no one but his mind. This is what Sherlock called entering his mind palace. His brain analyzed data and deduced conclusions while his hands moved the violin bow and strings. Many horrible crimes had been solved by Sherlock Holmes playing Beethoven, Mozart, and Brahms.

Although he gave Mrs. Hudson strict instructions not to interrupt him when he was performing, the great detective was elated when he saw the twins enter his sitting room.

“It is truly a joyful occasion when you two grace me with your presence,” the great detective told the twins. “I have once again been eluded by the Peterson gang, so it gives me pleasure to know you have made headway on your vampire case. Please sit down and tell me what you have learned.”
